Vestmannaeyjar is the largest puffin colony in Iceland as there are millions of puffins that nest on the islands every year. One of the best ways to see the puffins is going on a Rib-boat tour where you can see the puffin in its natural environment. The puffins nests in holes in the island surrounding us and is here during the summertime. The puffins arrive in the springtime to nest and leaves in the autumn (the last are leaving in mid September.
During winter the puffins stay on the sea by Greenland or Newfoundland. They fly over there on their little wings which they flap about 400 times per minute but they can reach 88 km per hour. They dive about 60-70 meters under the ocean to catch their food.
